A winter ritual
Every year, just as soon as the first snowfalls decorate the mountain tops, there is a long-standing appointment for myself, family and friends: an outing on snowshoes, and sometimes even a snowmobile tour.
The route is always the same, a trek taking in some breathtaking panorama near Madesimo. A chance to immerse ourselves in nature at its most pristine, breathing pure air and enjoying each other’s company.
Along the way we take in the beauty of a snow-clad landscape all around and a silence pierced only by snowshoe on snow. Every now and then we stop to take pictures and catch our breath. Each and every snowshoe outing is a unique and special experience, moments of sharing and a genuine escape from daily routines, a way to recharge your batteries and rediscover the simple and ample beauty of nature. The feeling of peace and serenity that the mountains endow is a precious gift to be cherished.
Once back home, a cup of hot tea and my walnut cookies await. I prepare them every year especially at Christmas. It’s a tradition that takes me back to my grandmother’s and her typical “cookie box”. Just like everyone else’s. I prepare them in different flavours and shapes, experimenting with classic shortcrust pastry, cocoa or wholemeal.Snacks in good company with homemade biscuits provide moments of pure joy and lightheartedness.
