It was as far back as December 1960 when the Hotel Conradi on Chiavenna’s very threshold threw open its doors. Yes indeed, very nearly 60 years have passed since then and over the course of that time the Cervieri family has welcomed many thousands of guests offering hospitality and a restaurant service of the very highest order.
Yet the tourism that occupied Chiavenna in the decades of the sixties and seventies
is a world apart from that which feeds the sector today. During the summer period
for example the hotel is hugely popular with people touring on motorbikes and who
appreciate accommodation from where they can readily enjoy Chiavenna’s historic
centre, its characteristic byways and excellent cuisine. Cyclists too are raising their game, literally, attracted by the possibilities of tackling the surrounding passes, particularly Maloja and Spluga. And let’s not forget the merry band of hikers taking on the historic Via Spluga who appreciate the Conradi for its very central location.
Locally, when the Conradi is mentioned, it’s automatically associated with the family Cervieri. Today it’s overseen by Enrico, who took over the running from his father and now supervises everything along with his son Marco. Naturally enough, to remain both competitive and contemporary the hotel has been subject to a number of refurbishments over the years. The most recent one was completed in March 2019 and involved the majority of the rooms undergoing total makeovers.
Pastel colours, expansive bathrooms, a light, warm, and welcoming ambience are
just some of the distinguishing elements that define today’s Conradi. An obvious attraction for a stay at the Conradi is its position. Situated very close to the delightful Santa Maria district, we are at the very outset of the pedestrianised historic centre in which the piazza form the town’s pulsing heart.
