Strangely enough Ivo’s talent owes much to his wife Donata. Or rather to a gift he made several years ago which he then adopted for himself. It began with a neatly wrapped Reflex camera tied with a bow on the occasion of his wife’s birthday, and the idea of her learning the basics of the art of photography.
But it was Ivo’s curiosity that took over and drove him to get to know the secrets of a particular art form which was to become his great passion. And today, aged 42, Ivo has become a highly respected exponent of local landscapes. Courses undertaken over the years combined with his innate capacity to “frame” unforgettable glimpses of nature all around has enabled Ivo to capture some extraordinary shots. “I had the good fortune to meet some very able teachers - in particular Roberto Ganassa and Roby Moiola – with whom I’d go out and they’d happily share their photographic experiences with me”.
Ties with his local territory – that of Valchiavenna - form an essential element for Ivo, particularly in his guise as photographer; “I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else,” he admits, So no surprise that his favourite themes are those that feature nature and landscapes. In his photos Ivo introduces a valley interpreted through use of light up above and shadows down below. Strong contrasts indeed, which manage to bring to life even the more steadfast and eternal subjects like snow-capped Alpine peaks.
