Andossi by Snow Racquet

Foto: Roberto Moiola

Valle Spluga presents a whole host of possible outings on snow racquet. Silence within larch woodland or moving along the mountain slopes at 2000m: anyone who enjoys getting out and about at the very heart of nature is simply spoilt for choice.
The area around Andossi is one of the most popular; even after serious snowfalls, it’s a readily accessible ridge just above Madesimo, a little south of the Spluga Pass. According to experts the name derives from the series of undulations which develop along the high plateau. Perfect for the snow racquet brigade in search of gentle, relaxing excursions. Most head along the path that leads from Madesimo to Montespluga or vice versa. It only takes an hour or so but you could even stop earlier at the top of the ridge where you can take in some magnificent panorama.
The climb from Madesimo begins along the path next to the Albergo Andossi on the right side of the Scalcoggia stream. It really is suitable for everyone. Head through the delightful pine forest and you’re soon at altitude. In just 30 minutes at a reasonable pace you’ll reach the first local refuge.
Do take the time to enjoy views from the natural terraces which are unrivalled frankly in Valle Spluga. Looking south on a clear winter’s day you can enjoy the plain of Valchiavenna as far as Lago di Novate. On the left the Skiarea occupies all the slopes dwarfed by the surrounding peaks. On the right the eye roams across the Pian dei Cavalli, whilst at one’s back loom Tambò, Ferrè, Piani and Quadro.
And there’s even more for those with excess energy to burn up as Alpine Guides are a real bonus. Apart from organising regular excursions to some of the most magical corners around, they can also provide genuine insights leading to lesser-known spots. Use them by contacting the Guide Association to organise an outing with friends – maybe even under a moonlit sky.
